Message From the Chairman
I am delighted to take over as Global Chair of IICFIP and am grateful for all your support and encouragement.
IICFIP is concerned with a very crucial aspect of human behavior – fraud. The positive contribution of IICFIP is to address the strongly felt need for skills in the area of effective investigation of frauds. Fraudulent activities are as old as the human race itself. We see it referenced, though by different names, in various literature and studies throughout history. From the times of Plutarchand Aristotle before him, philosophers and those committed to good governance have decried fraud. More aggressive fraudulent behavior in modern times and the tendency to bypass the “good” and “fair” has been witnessed across race, time and location.
Fraud has manifested itself in different forms and the most significant among recent manifestations is digital or cyber frauds. Reliable estimates put the loss due to cyber frauds and crimes at a level that appear to surpass fraudulent money laundered in drug trafficking, which was regarded as the largest illegal money
It is famously said that there is enough resources in this world for every human’s need but surely not enough for every human’s greed. So long as there is greed, there will be motivation to commit frauds and so long as organizations and individuals do not follow well laid down control systems, fraudsters will continue to get away; sometimes with no consequences at all. It is in this context I believe that IICFIP will make a mark for itself by promoting competent and verifiable forensic investigation processes. As we know, with every policing activity those who want to break the law are running a lap or two ahead of those who want them apprehended and punished. This is a race in continuum and our efforts will significantly help in reducing this gap.
I must congratulate Mr Sosthenes Bichanga for having conceptualized this Institute at a time when the need to forensically dissect fraudulent events and actions are becoming the need of the day. We realize that we have a long way to go and that journey will only be possible with your active support, cooperation and advise so that IICFIP remains “relevant” in the forensic investigation world. I can foresee the kind of opportunities that will arise in the future with specialized frauds happening – cyber frauds; green initiative frauds; energy related frauds, etc. IICFIP, with the support and cooperation from each of you, hopes to emerge as the world’s most preferred institution in research, education, training and certification of forensic investigation professionals.
I welcome each of you to join me in this important journey that will create a significant impact on the forensic investigation process. I will delighted when we come to a state where what IICFIP sets as standard for forensic investigation will become the global de-facto standard.
